Where does your donation go? People regularly say to us, "You're a volunteer-based consumer organization. What do you need my donation for? What do you do with the money?" The answer is simple. Even a grass-roots organization like ours needs money in order to function effectively. We've hired a part-time Lansing lobbyist and PR person, who can open doors and help get our message to many people in the legislature and press with whom we don't have direct contacts. That's our single biggest expense. Dozens of little expenses add up, too. Setting up and running this website. Setting up our statewide database of supporters, and paying for the email service we use to contact them more efficiently. Filing fees for legal documents. Costs of the information packets that we hand out to legislators and their staff. Frankly, our volunteers have been eating a lot of these smaller expenses -- but we can't continue to do that forever. Finally, there are the things we'd like to do, if we had the resources. The folks on the other side of the shipping issue have produced and sent multiple DVD's and mailings to state legislators. They have an army of lobbyists working the halls of the State Capitol every day. They commissioned a "poll" with questions designed to bolster their cause. They regularly host legislative receptions and parties at their Lansing headquarters. And, of course, there are the infamous hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions. We'll never come close to matching these resources -- nor are we interested in doing many of the things they do. But it WOULD be nice to be able to send some mailings, or host a Lansing reception (with Michigan wines, of course!) for legislators and their aides. These things that would advance our cause, and help to put "faces" on the thousands of people behind our efforts. Please help WineCAM do these things by clicking the button above!
